Evergreen Cemetery Association - History Walk 2014
As a part of Brainerd History Week 2014 events, the Evergreen Cemetery Association Board of Trustees hosted a guided walking tour on Thursday morning, June 19, 2014, highlighting distinctive monuments and notable pioneers. The notable pioneers were chosen and researched by local historian Ann M. Nelson. Executive Director Karen Lentz and Trustee John Van Essen laid out the tour. Trustee Laurie Hall was on hand to provide refreshments.
The high turnout, despite the rain, was very gratifying to see and tells us that there is a lot of interest in Evergreen Cemetery!
We split into two tour groups of about 30-40 each, led by Trustees Duane Blanck and John Van Essen. The tour lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes.
These materials were used during the tour, and can be used to do your own self-guided tour:
- Introductory handout (PDF
)
- Map of the route and the stops on the tour (PDF
, 2.2 MB, formatted as 7.4" x 10")
- Detailed information presented at each stop (PDF

- Pictures of the item of interest at each stop (PDF

John Erickson volunteered his time to take photographs. You can see his pictures from the tour in his "Cemetery Walk" Album on Facebook. That album can be viewed by anyone - you do not need to have a Facebook account.
